| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing bust of the emperor, pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed, rendered in a stylized Lombard interpretation of late Roman imperial iconography. Two distinctive parallel tassels hang from the diadem on either side of the neck, a hallmark feature of this Lombard tremissis type. The portrait is executed in a debased, schematic style characteristic of early medieval barbarian coinage imitating Byzantine prototypes. The bust is surrounded by a retrograde or degenerate Latin legend arranged around the periphery of the flan. |
