| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of Emperor Justin I facing right, depicted in late Roman imperial style with a pearl diadem and layered drapery visible at the shoulder. The portrait is rendered in a somewhat barbaric provincial style typical of Burgundian imitative coinage. A Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading D N IVSTIVS PP AIV, representing the imperial titulature. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hammered gold coinage of the early sixth century. |
