The emperor wears an elaborate crown or diadem and imperial mantle, with the facial features simplified relative to official Byzantine prototypes. The bust is set within a beaded border, with the legend distributed around the periphery of the flan. The overall execution reflects the hand of a non-Byzantine celator reproducing imperial iconography with varying fidelity. |
