Obverse description Central field dominated by a bold equal-armed cross pattée with seriffed terminals, around which radiates a circular legend in debased Latin capitals. The inscription D N DESIDERIVS RXV runs around the inner field, separated from the cross motif by a plain inner border. The lettering is rendered in the characteristic angular, semi-barbarous style typical of late Lombard hammered gold coinage. The overall design is contained within a plain raised rim, and the flan is notably irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hand-hammered production of the period.
