Obverse description Central stipple cross composed of a cluster of pellets arranged in cruciform pattern, occupying the principal field of the coin. The cross is surrounded by a circular Latin legend reading D N DESIDERX · RX, rendered in crude, irregular letterforms characteristic of Lombard hammered coinage. The lettering is separated by pellet stops, and the overall composition reflects the debased epigraphic style typical of late Lombard tremisses struck at Lucca. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hand-struck gold of this period.
