Obverse description Central cross pattée set within a beaded inner circle, surrounded by a continuous Latin legend in pseudo-cursive characters. The lettering, reading D · N DI : SIDI : RIV RX (Dominus Noster Desiderius Rex), is arranged around the circumference between two concentric beaded borders. The style is characteristic of late Lombard hammered gold coinage, with irregular flan and bold, though somewhat crude, letterforms typical of the Castelseprio workshop.
