Obverse description Central cruciform monogram enclosed within a beaded inner circle, the arms of the cross interlaced to form a compact regal cipher. The monogram is set within the field and surrounded by a circular Latin legend reading D N AISTVLF REX CRX M, identifying Aistulf as lord and king. The lettering is rendered in a debased but legible Lombardic style characteristic of eighth-century Italic coinage. The overall design is typical of late Migration Period gold tremisses, reflecting Byzantine numismatic conventions adapted under Lombard royal authority.
