The effigy is rendered in a rough, provincial manner characteristic of Germanic workshop production, with stylized facial features and a large eye. A degenerate pseudo-legend surrounds the bust in the field, composed of meaningless letter-like strokes imitating Roman script. The overall composition closely follows Byzantine tremissis prototypes but with notably debased workmanship. |
