Deshalji II ruled Kutch under increasingly strained conditions following the British assumption of paramountcy over the region after 1819, when the East India Company formalized its control through treaty arrangements that left local rulers nominally sovereign but practically subordinate. The trambiyo was among the smallest denominations his mint produced, and copper issues of this period circulated heavily in port towns along the Rann — coins found today often show the kind of edge damage consistent with decades in active trade use rather than careful keeping.
