The Mongolian State Bank — Mongol Банк — was established in 1924, the same year the Mongolian People's Republic formally declared independence under Soviet patronage. This 1984 commemorative marks the institution's 60th anniversary, issued at a moment when Mongolia was among the most tightly integrated Soviet satellite states, its economy almost entirely dependent on Comecon trade arrangements and Soviet subsidies that accounted for the majority of national budget revenue.
