The surface exhibits a heavily granular, pitted texture characteristic of cast tin coinage, with natural oxidation and patination across the field. No legend or inscription is present. Tin coinage on the Malay peninsula developed largely outside formal state minting — many issues were produced by Chinese merchant syndicates and individual kangchu settlement operators who needed small-denomination currency for the gambier and pepper plantation economy. Authentication of specific issues remains genuinely difficult, as the same basic types were struck across multiple Straits settlements with no meaningful centralized oversight.
