Obverse description Central field occupied by a bold multi-line Arabic-script legend arranged in a characteristic cruciform or square cartouche pattern, typical of Sadozai coinage. The inscription names the ruler Muhammad Yusuf Khan and includes the mint name Herat. The legend is enclosed within a dotted or beaded inner border, with a decorative floral or foliate outer border surrounding the entire design. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hammered gold coinage of the period. The execution is characteristic of the provincial Afghan hammered tradition, with boldly struck but somewhat uneven lettering.
