Beschrijving keerzijde Quartered shield of Württemberg arms — displaying the three stag antlers of Württemberg and the fish of Mömpelgard — surmounted by a ducal crown, all within an ornate wreath of laurel and palm branches tied at the base. The motto legend is divided by the shield and wreath, reading around the field. The overall composition is heraldic and symmetrical, characteristic of late 17th-century German thaler coinage.

Aanvullende informatie

William Louis ruled Württemberg for just three years, from 1674 until his death in 1677 — the same year this thaler was struck. He succeeded his father Eberhard III but died without legitimate heirs, triggering a succession dispute that briefly destabilized the duchy before his cousin Frederick Charles assumed control. Coins of his reign are scarce simply because the window for production was so narrow.

The Dav. ST designation places this firmly within the South German thaler tradition of the period, struck to the Reichstaler standard established at the 1566 Augsburg imperial recess.
