| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing bust of Elector William II of Hesse-Cassel, depicted in military uniform with epaulettes and a star-shaped order decoration on the chest. The portrait is rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and facial features. A continuous Latin legend encircles the effigy, reading WILHELM II. KURF. SOUV. LANDGR. Z. HESSEN GR. H. V. FULDA., identifying the ruler by his full electoral and landgravial titles. The legend is separated from the rim by a prominent inner border of raised dots.
