Victor I Amadeus ruled Anhalt-Bernburg for less than four years, from 1718 until his death in 1721 — which makes a 1711 dating impossible under his sole reign. This piece was struck during the co-regency period, when Victor Amadeus governed jointly with his brother Charles Frederick following the death of their father Frederick, a constitutional arrangement common among the fractured Anhalt principalities that frequently complicates attribution. Bernburg's output in this period was modest, and thalers bearing Victor Amadeus's name alone from these co-regency years are considerably scarcer than those of the subsequent sole reign.
