Obverse description The entire field is occupied by a sixteen-line German inscription in capital letters, commemorating the striking of this thaler from silver won at the reopened Birnbaumer mine near Harzgerode, under the prosperous reign of His Serene Highness Prince Victor Amadeus, Senior Prince of Anhalt, upon his entering his seventy-eighth year. The date appears in Roman numerals (MDCCXI) at the head of the inscription, and the text concludes with the phrase DISES GEPRAEGET WORDEN at the base of the field.
