Ulrich III ruled Mecklenburg-Güstrow as a partition duchy following the 1555 division of the Mecklenburg territories between him and his brother Johann VII — an arrangement that produced two parallel coining authorities issuing thalers simultaneously, which creates genuine attribution challenges for this type. Kunzel 114 B/a is among the more precisely documented varieties, but examples circulated freely across both halves of the divided duchy, and contemporary die-sharing between the two mints is documented.
