Obverse description Full-length figure of a fully armoured knight standing facing, wearing a plumed helmet and holding a long lance or staff in his right hand; at his left side rests an oval heraldic shield bearing the Saxon arms with rampant lion. The figure is rendered in the robust Baroque style characteristic of early seventeenth-century German coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the central type, while the circumferential legend in Latin reads MONETA·FRATRVM·DVX:SAXON:LIN:VIN:1622·, identifying the coin as the coinage of the fraternal Dukes of Saxony of the Ernestine line, with the date 1622.
