Sigismund von Schrattenbach ruled Salzburg from 1753 until his death in 1771, a tenure most historically significant for his relationship with the Mozart family — he was the archbishop who first employed Leopold Mozart and under whom Wolfgang Amadeus grew up, before the famously acrimonious break with his successor Colloredo. The Salzburg archbishopric struck thalers with considerable regularity throughout this period, and the "type 4" classification in Zöttl reflects die variations documented across a production run that spanned multiple years rather than a single campaign.
The Davenport reference places this squarely within the broader Salzburg thaler sequence that collectors have parsed into fine distinctions of legend spacing and die alignment — Zöttl 2974 and 2975 differ in exactly such minor particulars.
