Additional information

Sigismund von Schrattenbach governed the Archbishopric of Salzburg from 1753 until his death in 1771, and his tenure coincided almost exactly with the childhood of Leopold Mozart's household in the city — the archbishop was, in fact, the Mozarts' direct employer and the patron who permitted young Wolfgang's early concert tours across Europe. The thaler coinage of his reign is well-documented across multiple die varieties, with Zöttl cataloguing the type 3 distinction based on subtle differences in the arrangement of the archbishop's titles in the legend.
