Reverse description Elaborately quartered and impaled Habsburg coat of arms surmounted by an arched imperial crown, the escutcheon displaying the arms of Austria, Burgundy, Tyrol, and other Habsburg territorial claims, all set within an ornate Baroque cartouche with foliate and scroll ornamentation. The date 1665 is divided by the top of the shield, with 16 to the left and 65 to the right. The peripheral Latin legend DVX BVRGVNDI COM TYROLIS surrounds the design within beaded and milled borders, denoting the ruler's titles as Duke of Burgundy and Count of Tyrol.

Additional information

Sigismund Franz ruled Tyrol for less than two years before dying in June 1665 without an heir, triggering the reversion of the County to the main Habsburg line under Emperor Leopold I. His coinage output was accordingly brief, and thalers bearing his name were struck across a narrow window that makes the type genuinely scarce rather than artificially so.
