| Obverse description | Armored and draped bust of Emperor Rudolf II facing right, wearing an elaborate ruff collar and richly ornamented cuirass with intricate detailing. The emperor is depicted with a full beard and strong facial features in the Renaissance portrait style. The circular legend surrounds the effigy and reads RVDOLPHVS II D G ROM IMP SEMP AVG GERM HVNG BOH REX, identifying him as Holy Roman Emperor and King of Germany, Hungary, and Bohemia. The field is relatively flat, characteristic of hammered coinage of the period. A beaded or toothed inner border frames the design. |
