背面描述 Elaborately crowned composite heraldic arms displaying the multiple quarterings of the Habsburg dominions, with a central escutcheon bearing the arms of Upper Alsace. The Order of the Golden Fleece is suspended from the shield as a collar, with a notably small fleece pendant. The surrounding legend, NEC NON ARCHIDVCES AVS DV BV LAND G ALS CO FE, records the additional titles of Archduke of Austria, Duke of Burgundy, Landgrave of Alsace, and Count of Ferrette. The composition is executed in the elaborate late-Renaissance heraldic style typical of Habsburg coinage of the period.

附加信息

Rudolf II died in January 1612, meaning this thaler was struck either in the final weeks of his reign or — more likely — posthumously under the authority still carrying his name, a common practice among Alsatian mints settling unfinished business. The Landgraviate of Upper Alsace was administered through the Habsburg inner-Austrian line, and its minting rights were exercised sporadically, which accounts for the relatively narrow die-variety spread documented across the Klemm references 176 through 180.

The year 1612 also saw Matthias formally elected Holy Roman Emperor, creating administrative pressure to retire Rudolf's coinage types quickly.
