| Reverse description | The reverse field is dominated by a large, densely set multi-line Latin inscription in the central area, reading DEO TER OPT. MAX. GLORIA ET LAUS, QVI GUSTAVQ ADOLPHO SVECORUM GOTHORUM, WAND.QVE REGI, CONTRA CAESAREANUM AC LIGISTICVM EXERCITUM, VICTORIAM TRIBUIT AD LIPSIAM DIE VII. SEPT. ANNO MDCXXXI ('To God, thrice best and greatest, glory and praise, who granted victory to Gustavus Adolphus, King of the Swedes, Goths and Vandals, over the Imperial and League army near Leipzig on 7 September 1631'). The circumferential legend along the outer border records the Erfurt city celebration and the date MDCXXXII, all contained within a beaded border. The overall layout follows the characteristic format of German commemorative thalers of the Thirty Years' War period. |
