附加信息

Peter Philip von Dernbach became Prince-Bishop of Würzburg in 1675 after previously holding the see of Bamberg — an unusual consolidation of two Franconian bishoprics under a single ruler that made him one of the more politically significant ecclesiastical princes in the Holy Roman Empire during that decade. His reign coincided with the expansionist wars of Louis XIV, and Würzburg, sitting squarely in the path of potential French incursion into the Empire, maintained active coinage throughout his tenure partly to fund military contributions demanded by imperial obligations.

Davenport's CCT#5985 places this issue within a well-documented run for the type, though die variations across the 1675–1683 span are known.
