Reverse description A crowned double-headed Imperial eagle displayed in the center of the field, its wings spread wide with each talon grasping a sword and an orb respectively. On the eagle's breast, two ornate baroque cartouches are suspended: the left bearing the arms of Freiburg (a diagonal bend or bird device), and the right displaying a quartered or cross-hatched shield. The circular Latin legend surrounding the design reads SVB VMBRA ALARVM TVARVM, a devotional phrase meaning 'Under the shadow of Thy wings,' invoking divine protection over the city. The composition is executed in the high baroque style characteristic of early eighteenth-century German municipal coinage.
