| Obverse description | The entire obverse field is occupied by a ten-line Latin commemorative inscription in capital letters, with the date embedded as a chronogram in the final line (VII·KAL·FEBR·MDCLXXIX). The text records the Peace of Nijmegen concluded between Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I and Louis XIV of France, dedicated by the Senate and People of Strasbourg to eternal posterity. The city arms of Strasbourg — a bend sinister on a shield — are displayed at the lower center beneath the inscription, flanked by small foliate ornaments. The whole is enclosed within a plain inner circle and a toothed milled border. |
