| Reverse description | Central device consists of two crossed ceremonial staffs or batons, tied at the intersection with a decorative knot, surmounted by a flowering plant or palm frond issuing upward from the crossing point. The date, here 1627, is placed in two numerals to either side of the crossed staffs within the inner field. Two small heraldic shields appear at the left and right margins, flanking the central composition. A beaded inner border encircles the design, separating it from the circumferential Latin motto legend, which reads CONSILIO ET VIRTUTE MONA NOVA IMP, referencing Landgrave Moritz's personal motto 'By counsel and virtue' together with a reference to the new imperial coinage standard. The overall composition is bold and emblematic, consistent with the propagandistic thaler coinage of the Thirty Years' War period. |
