| Description du revers | The Transylvanian coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a crowned shield divided into quarters with the sun and moon above, supported by two rampant lions and surmounted by a crested helm with mantling. A sword passes vertically through the shield. The whole is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The peripheral legend PAR · REG · HVN · DOM · ET · SI · CO · 1668, abbreviating Apafi's full titular style as Lord of Parts of the Kingdom of Hungary and Count of the Székelys, is distributed around the hexagonal flan and terminates with a small leaf ornament. |

Mihály Apafi ruled Transylvania as an Ottoman client prince — installed by the Porte in 1661 after being pulled from relative obscurity as a minor Transylvanian noble held captive at the Ottoman court. His thalers from the 1660s were struck under persistent political pressure from both Vienna and Constantinople, with his administration walking a narrow line between Habsburg encroachment from the west and the suzerain power that kept him in office.
The MBR#2406a designation places this among a tightly documented group of Apafi thalers from Gyulafehérvár (Alba Iulia), the principal Transylvanian mint of the period.
