Reverse description The Virgin Mary is depicted seated in majesty, holding the Christ Child in her arms, the entire figure enveloped by an elaborate radiate glory or mandorla of rays emanating outward to the periphery of the coin. The composition reflects the Marian devotion prominent in Bavarian Counter-Reformation iconography under Duke Maximilian I. A clockwise circumferential legend in Latin commences at the top of the coin, forming a protective religious invocation around the central image.
