| Reverse description | Armored equestrian figure of Maximilian facing right, mounted on a caparisoned horse in full stride, bearing a standard or lance in his right hand. The date 1611 is struck in the lower central field beneath the horse. At the bottom of the field is a large quartered shield bearing the arms of the Teutonic Order — the black cross characteristic of the Order prominently displayed — flanked by additional heraldic elements. The entire design is encircled by a continuous wreath of fourteen oval shield cartouches bearing the coats of arms of the various territories under Maximilian's administration, all within a beaded border. The composition reflects the grand heraldic tradition of Imperial German coinage of the early seventeenth century. |
