Obverse description Right-facing laureate and draped bust of Emperor Ferdinand II occupying the central field, portrayed with a prominent ruff collar and richly ornamented armour in the Baroque style. To the right of the bust, a rectangular countermark bearing the date 1681 and the arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg has been applied, the hallmark of Archbishop Max Gandolf von Kuenburg's countermarking program. A beaded inner border frames the portrait, with the circumferential Latin legend running between two concentric beaded circles. The original strike date 1623 appears in the lower field of the obverse, while the countermark date 16S81 is incorporated within the punch.
