| Description de l’avers | Crowned oval shield bearing the quartered arms of Bavaria and the Rhenish Palatinate, with a central escutcheon of the imperial orb, supported on either side by rampant lions. The collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece is suspended below the shield, and the date is inscribed within a cartouche at the base. The peripheral legend in Latin reads MAXIMIL. COM. PAL. RH. VT. BAV. DVX. S. R. I. ARCHIDAP. ET. ELECT. 1626, identifying Maximilian I, Count Palatine of the Rhine, Duke of Bavaria, Arch-Steward of the Holy Roman Empire and Elector. |

| Description du revers | The Virgin Mary seated facing, crowned and draped, holding the Christ Child before her, her feet resting upon an inverted crescent moon with the figure surrounded by a glory of radiating flames. Clouds are depicted beneath the crescent. The Salzburg countermark '16S81' appears prominently in the field, applied at the time of revalidation by the Archbishopric of Salzburg in 1681. The circumferential Latin legend CLYPEVS OMNIBVS IN TE SPERANTIBVS ('A shield to all who trust in Thee') encircles the composition, with the countermark date 16S81 also integrated into the legend. |
