Reverse description Central quartered and impaled coat of arms of the Landgraviate of Hesse-Cassel, surmounted by a crowned helm with elaborate mantling and flanked by two ornate supporters, rendered in the elaborate heraldic style typical of late 16th-century German thalers. The quartered shield incorporates the striped Hessian lion and additional dynastic arms, all within decorative scrollwork. A beaded inner border frames the heraldic composition. The date 1594 appears at the top of the field, above the crowned helm. The surrounding Latin legend reads CONSILIO. ET. VIRTVTE. ANNO. DNI. 1594, translating as 'By counsel and virtue, in the year of the Lord 1594.'
