Paris von Lodron ruled Salzburg through the entirety of the Thirty Years' War, and his sustained output of thalers across three decades reflects both the archbishopric's considerable silver resources and his deliberate projection of Catholic authority during the conflict. Salzburg itself remained neutral and largely unscathed — a remarkable achievement given its geographic position — and that stability made continuous coinage possible where other German ecclesiastical mints fell silent or debased.
