The shield is encircled by an ornate decorative border of scrollwork and cartouches. The surrounding Latin legend, divided into four segments by the shield, reads ARCHIDVX AVST D BVR S K C C TYR, abbreviating the Emperor's titles as Archduke of Austria, Duke of Burgundy, and Count of Tyrol.
