| Reverse description | Central field occupied by a draped funerary tablet or cartouche surmounted by a ducal crown and flanked by laurel branches, bearing a multi-line Latin inscription recording the biographical dates of Duke John William: his birth on 28 March 1675, his death on 4 November 1690, his interment in February 1691, and the duration of his life as 15 years, 7 months and 12 days. The surrounding circular legend, separated from the inner field by a rope-like border, reads RECTOR ACADEMIÆ IENENSIS MAGNIFICENTISSIMVS PRÆSTANT ÆTERNA CADVCIS, honouring him as the most magnificent rector of the University of Jena. Floral ornaments appear at the base of the legend. |
