Aanvullende informatie

Brandenburg-Ansbach in 1679 was governed by John Frederick, who had assumed the margraviate in 1667 after a prolonged dynastic dispute with his brothers. The Hohenzollern territories in Franconia were chronically fragmented through this period, and the right to strike thalers — a privilege requiring imperial authorization — was exercised here with deliberate political weight, affirming sovereign status within the Holy Roman Empire at a moment when Ansbach's standing remained contested among the junior Hohenzollern lines.

ST#6242 distinguishes this from related Ansbach thaler types of the same reign, several of which share obverse dies but differ in reverse arrangement and mintmaster marks.
