| 正面描述 | Draped bust of Bishop Johann Eucharius Schenk von Castell facing right, wearing a flowing allonge wig and richly embroidered ecclesiastical vestments with a prominent pectoral cross. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the late Baroque style, with fine detail in the lace and armor decoration. The circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading from the lower left upward and around the rim. |

John Eucharius Schenk of Castell held the see of Eichstätt from 1685 until his death in 1697, a tenure notable more for administrative consolidation than for political drama. Eichstätt was among the smaller ecclesiastical territories of the Holy Roman Empire, and its thalers were produced in modest quantities — episcopal coinage from this see rarely circulated beyond the immediate region, making survivors largely cabinet pieces rather than genuine trade coins.
The Davenport reference places this squarely within the broader corpus of late seventeenth-century German ecclesiastical thalers, a category that saw a sharp decline in new issues after 1700 as smaller bishoprics lost effective minting authority.
