| Obverse description | Draped bust of Duke Johann Ulrich facing right, wearing an elaborately ruffled lace collar and armored pauldron, rendered in high relief in the baroque style. The portrait is boldly struck with fine detail in the facial features and costume. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, divided across the upper and lower fields, reading the duke's name and titles. |

| Additional information |
Johann Ulrich von Eggenberg acquired Krummau (Český Krumlov) in 1622 as direct reward from Emperor Ferdinand II for his role in engineering the political maneuvering that produced the Battle of White Mountain outcome — effectively buying the duchy with influence rather than money. The right to strike thalers followed from that elevation. His mint at Krummau operated only during this narrow window, which accounts for the limited number of dies and the relatively small surviving population of pieces across all varieties cataloged under Dav EC II#3383.
