| Obverse description | Two facing busts of Johann Christian and Johann Seyfried, both draped and armored, jugate and confronted at center, with the date 1653 inscribed above between the busts. The circular legend surrounds the effigies, identifying the two princes by name and title. The coin's field is plain, with a beaded inner border separating the legend from the central design. The artistic style is characteristic of mid-17th century German Baroque portraiture on coinage. |

The Eggenberg family acquired the Bohemian lordship of Krummau (Český Krumlov) in 1622 as a direct reward for Johann Ulrich von Eggenberg's political services to Ferdinand II during the suppression of the Bohemian revolt. This thaler was struck under the joint rule of his grandsons, Johann Christian and Johann Seyfried, who inherited the lordship together in 1649 following the death of their father Johann Anton I. Joint-rule coinages from minor Bohemian lordships are inherently short-lived by succession logic alone — Johann Christian bought out his brother's share of Krummau in 1664, ending the arrangement.
