Obverse description Draped and mantled bust of Elector Joachim I Nestor facing right, wearing a broad-brimmed hat and holding a scepter over his right shoulder. The effigy is rendered in the early Renaissance style typical of early German thalers. A continuous Latin legend surrounds the portrait, giving the elector's titles. The field is plain with no inner circle visible.

Reverse description Quartered heraldic shield displaying the four-fold arms of Brandenburg — including the Hohenzollern scepter shield as the central escutcheon, surmounted by a displayed eagle in the first quarter, a lion in the second, and the distinctive checky pattern in the lower quarters — surrounded by a continuous Latin legend. The date 1521 appears above the shield within the legend. The composition is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the legend filling the outer field to the coin's rim.
