The legend surrounding the field reads 'DER HER IST MEIN SCHILT AVF DEN ICH TRAWE' (The Lord is my shield in whom I trust). The central inscription records his birth at Cölln an der Spree on 11 June 1583, his death at Onolzbach (Ansbach) on 25 February 1625, and his reign of 22 years.
