Obverse description Armoured bust of Margrave Joachim Ernest three-quarters facing right, wearing elaborately decorated armour with a large lace ruff collar and a jewelled chain across the chest. The date 1620 is divided to either side of the effigy in the field. A circular legend in Latin surrounds the portrait, separated from the coin's milled border by an inner beaded circle.

Reverse description A large oval heraldic shield displaying the multiple quartered arms of the Margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, set within an ornate cartouche with scrolled foliate mantling. The escutcheon bears numerous quarters including eagles, lions, and other dynastic charges in the baroque style characteristic of early seventeenth-century German coinage. A continuous Latin legend encircles the design between an inner beaded ring and the coin's milled outer border.
