Jakob Ernst von Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn served as Prince-Bishop of Olomouc from 1738 until his death in 1745, a tenure defined largely by the upheaval of the War of the Austrian Succession. Silesia — directly adjacent to the Bishopric — fell to Frederick the Great in 1742, and the subsequent Treaty of Breslau reshaped the regional political order around Olomouc itself. Thalers issued under his authority during these years circulated against that backdrop of territorial loss and military occupation.
The bishopric's mint at Kremsier struck these pieces across a narrow four-year window, which naturally constrains survivor populations.
