Additional information

György Rákóczi II inherited the Transylvanian throne in 1648 following his father's death, and his early thalers from this period reflect a principality still navigating the delicate balance between Ottoman suzerainty and Habsburg pressure. The 1650 issue predates his catastrophic 1657 Polish campaign — an unsanctioned military adventure that the Ottomans used as justification to destabilize his rule and ultimately cost him the throne.

H#562 is the standard cataloguing reference for this type; ÉH#351 cross-references the Erdélyi Hanzó classification used specifically for Transylvanian issues.
