| Reverse description | The reverse displays the elaborately quartered arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, comprising a lion rampant in the upper dexter quarter, horizontal barry stripes in the upper sinister quarter, a double-headed eagle in the lower dexter quarter, and a lion passant in the lower sinister quarter. The shield is surmounted by a princely crown and an archiepiscopal cross, flanked on both sides by ornate mantle drapery with tassels, evoking the heraldic achievement of an ecclesiastical prince of the Holy Roman Empire. A sword and a crozier or scepter appear behind the crown as symbols of temporal and spiritual authority. The date 1797 is inscribed in the exergue below the shield. The engraving is precise and deeply struck, characteristic of the high-quality output of the Salzburg Mint in this period. |
