| 正面描述 | Draped bust of Bishop Hermann Werner von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht facing right, wearing episcopal robes with a prominent pectoral cross visible on the chest, his hair arranged in long flowing curls characteristic of the late Baroque period. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the drapery and lace vestments. The circumferential legend in Latin runs around the periphery of the field, separated from the bust by an inner border. |

Hermann Werner von Metternich ruled as Prince-Bishop of Paderborn from 1683 until his death in 1704, a tenure shaped almost entirely by the ruinous costs of the Nine Years' War. The Bishopric sat squarely in the path of French incursions and counter-mobilizations by the Empire, and episcopal minting of large silver thalers in this period served as much to meet military contribution demands as any commercial purpose.
The Weingärtner Corvey reference 168a distinguishes this from at least one die variant in the series — worth checking against the obverse legend spacing before cataloging as a single type.
