| Obverse description | Central field bears the elaborate quartered coat of arms of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, comprising multiple heraldic quarters displaying lions rampant, a horse passant, battlements, and other dynastic charges, with a small inescutcheon at centre. The shield is surmounted by ornamental scrollwork and flanked by decorative mantling. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire device, reading the ruler's full titulature, separated from the inner design by a beaded inner border. |

| Reverse description | The entire reverse field is occupied by a funerary inscription in seven lines of bold raised Latin lettering, recording the biographical and regnal details of Duke Henry Julius: his birth date of 15 October 1564, his death date of 20 July 1613, his lifespan of 48 years, 9 months, and 5 days, and his reign of 24 years, 2 months, and 17 days. The text is set within a plain, unadorned field with no additional imagery, giving the reverse a solemn epitaph character typical of German memorial thalers of the early seventeenth century. A plain raised rim frames the inscription. |
