Aanvullende informatie

Henry Julius ruled Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel from 1589 until his death in 1613, and his thalers span the full arc of a reign defined by confessional politics and an unusually cultivated court — he maintained one of the first permanent German theatre companies and wrote plays himself. The long date range on this type reflects continuous production across multiple minting contracts rather than a single campaign, and dies from different years show measurable variation in workmanship depending on which mint master held the lease.

Davenport's classification under GT I places it firmly in the general thaler series for the period, distinct from his commemorative and mining issues, which were struck separately to mark specific events or the silver output of the Rammelsberg and Lautenthal mines.
